We arrived to cosmopolitan Brussels with 3 lost bags and 1 missing person. One suitcase went to Moscow but all caught up eventually. Janice and I led a perfect size group of 39, not too big to get lost in or too small for comfort.

Each July trip draws school teachers who have loyally followed me around the world and they do love Europe. We began with a light orientation tour in the historic heart of this capital, followed by a tour of the Chocolate Museum. I found this boring, but the tastings were great.

After a nap at the Sheraton, we enjoyed a welcome dinner at Chez Leon, a typical Belgium Brasserie located on the charming "Rue de Restaurants." You can get mussels in Brussels, but not brussel sprouts. And the french fry as it was invented here. Our menu consisted of egg puff pastry with Ardennes mouseline sauce, Flemish beef stew in Grimbergen ale and a dark chocolate mousse cake on a bed buttercream which was a culinary masterpiece never to be forgotten. I always say that a loud group is a happy group, but I think their decibel level here may have been due to their indulgence of amber ales. 428 different types are brewed in this country including a popular new blueberry beer. Later we scattered like chickens into the Grand Place which is considered by most to be the worlds most beautiful square. It comes to life at night every July with a light show and various unlicensed entertainers. One young lady is dressed in candy tempting men to buy a bite.

If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium. After breakfast, we began our morning walking tour of the 17th century Grand Place. It was actually 8:30 Sunday morning and I marveled that in over a dozen visits here, I've never seen this place so empty. It echoed in silence as tourists slept and the locals were gone for holiday. Sunlight brilliantly flooded the gothic cathedrals, classical facades and art nuveau houses. We were alone and it was breathtaking.

We then visited the famed confectioner "Planet Chocolate" that opened especially for our group. Pedestrians peered in the windows with curiosity. A great demonstration was given by chocolatier Jon, grandson of the founder of this factory renowned for producing 67 different flavors. We learned about the history of cocoa. The ancient Mayans considered it an aphrodisiac and Montezuma consumed it in copious amounts. It was made famous in Belgium by J. Nuehus who added the praline hazelnut cream. Each cocoa fruit contains 25 beans. The best comes from Ghana, Ivory Coast and Indonesia. We learned all about the roasting and fermenting processes. Jon expounded on how healthy his dark chocolate is with more magnesium and antioxidants. He even asserts that it boosts energy and thus helps you loose weight...convoluted thinking. It was however, once sold at chemists as antidepressant medicine and unlimited amounts were given to soldiers in wartime to combat stress. At the end of the lecture, silver trays of truffles were presented along with a cup of hot ganache, which tasted like chocolate soup. I never really cared for chocolate but it was infatuation at first bite.

Our next stop was Chocolate Manon which I was told is run by a "chocolate nazi" who will lock the doors if we're one minute late. This small factory concentrates on quality over quantity and fancy packaging. The educational presentation was given by the owner Christian, who is both serious and hilarious. He only uses the highest quality vanilla, sugar, butter and 70% cocoa powder. This is a real factory with enormous chocolate blocks piled high and brown drippings everywhere. Sorry Hershey's, but the cocoa here is not replaced with palm oil, chemicals, coloring, vegetable fats and lard. This is as pure as it gets and it's better than Swiss. They sell direct to Bergoff and Neimans in NYC. There are 443 chocolate factories in Belgium all with the competitive spirit of Tour de France between them. Godiva still reigns supreme.

Christian explained that white chocolate is really an oxymoron. It contains only milk, sugar, cream and 21% white cocoa butter. As he lectured, he continually dipped his finger in to vats to taste his latest batch, while quickly running back and forth with frenetic energy from molds to freezer. He has a true passion for his product and consumes about 250 grams or a 1/2 lb a day, yet is as thin as Calista Flockhart.

I love my job, but would swap a month with him anytime.Over 1000 fillings are used inside the hollow shells. One by one, hundreds of shells are filled by hand. Each piece is a mini-sculpture. We're invited to squeeze the ganache pastry bags, but made a terrible mess and had to eat our mistakes. Nothing is discarded here. Even table scrapings will be remelted.

Dark chocolate can be stored up to 15 years and molded into any shape. We're shown pictures of intricate violins, a woman's formal dress and a life size dinning room table and chairs all made of chocolate.

Monday we toured this proud and regal city that is revealed in its royal palaces, cathedrals, museums and onuments. We see the headquarters of the EU and site of the 1958 World's Fair with the massive silver Atonium. We photograph the Mannekin Pis. [I never understood the love of this small bronze statue but it represents Brussels. Perhaps it's found in the irreverence of the artist.] Paula was our guide for several days here. Her stellar knowledge brought the history of Belgium to life, particularly the time when King Leopold purchased the Congo as his personal playground. Paula deeply cared for her work and later invited us to visit yet another chocolate factory, but fully sated, we declined. For free time we dispersed into tiny alleyways to intentionally get lost. Some searched out beer halls or hot sugar waffles, as others shopped for tapestries at give-away prices.

Things become a bit blurry from here. I'd taken some great notes on napkins throughout and managed to loose them all enroute. But memory serves well as we head to the capital of Flanders and enchanting Bruges. This town is a complete UNESCO World Heritage Site with a tranquil character that can't be described. The people have done so much to protect its medieval feel, it provides the magical affect of stepping back into time. It is called "Little Venice" and we enjoyed a boat cruise through the veritable maze of old canals that led to the Lake of Love. We strolled through ancient squares lined with houses of gabled rooftops and various cathedrals of holy this and holy that. Horse drawn carriages filled the cobbled streets. We entered the neo-gothic Basilica of Holy Blood and climbed 365 steps up the Belfry Tower with its carillon bells that chimed so loud it could blow an eardrum. We visited the cities finest lace shop for a demonstration on lace making, which I anticipated to be as exciting as watching paint dry. It was however, quite fascinating watching the delicate work of this 500 year old cottage industry.

We viewed an 18th century handkerchief so intricate that it took 4 ladies nearly 10 years to complete! All for a distant royal bride to blow her nose on.

I think I walked 67 kilometers that day. (Life lesson #122- NEVER wears heels on cobbled streets.) Bruges is entirely cozy and colorful, as if stepping into a postcard. At a café, I splurged on a waffle topped with chocolate, fruit and ice cream, so far, so good. For our entire trip we were blessed with no rain and perfect weather.

I'm a city girl at heart and was happy to depart for Holland. William of Orange is our jovial driver who just loaded our suitcases that have now swelled to 71 pieces. This is a super double-decker with plenty of room for our 150 mile journey. I joked on the mic as we crossed the border into Holland that there will be a 3 hour time change and never to drink the water. Much to my surprise my dear novice travelers actually started changing their watches! We passed many Smart Cars manufactured by Mercedes and Swatch. These toy-like hybrid two-seaters are expensive, but so adorable. On arrival, we checked into the Novotel Amsterdam for 4 days of touring pleasure.

We boarded our private glass topped boat and cruised through a labyrinth of canals. Amsterdam has 140 miles in all. Our wonderful guide Marilyn commentated on the picturesque neighborhoods and unique architecture. I photographed the world's skinniest house, built in 1664. It was 5 stories high and only the width of the front door! Many locals live on houseboats and the area starts to resemble a floating trailer park. Holland is about 100' below sea level. Pumps are used to constantly pump out water and basements do not exist.

The beer drinkers in this group loved the "Heineken Experience" with plenty of tastings and virtual games all over this famous brewery. The shoppers liked the Coster Diamond Factory where we learned about cutting and polishing the precious stones. They locked us in a room with guards where a gazillion euros worth of diamonds were displayed. We each had are own agenda for free time. The art lovers explored the national museums of Rembrandt and Van Gough. Many toured Ann Franks House where one can really sense the drama as she hid from the Nazi's in the tiny attic writing her diary. Others went to Edam for cheese and Delft for porcelain. I visited friends and indulged on Dutch pancakes of every style imaginable.

One day we visited Zaanse Schans, a typical village for total Dutch immersion. We began at the Ratterman Clog Factory where 3 million pairs are produced annually. They're used for working in the fields and are still worn today. Wooden shoes do not stretch so how can locals proclaim these to be comfortable? I prefer my Jimmy Choo's stilettos and instead buy tulip bulbs for souvenirs. We then visit a cheese farm and watched as they separated curds from whey. Here we bought enough wheels of flavored Goudas to make Wisconsin jealous. [We never considered the weight it would add later to our carry-ons.] We explored the open air museum with a backdrop of working windmills. There were also small period cast farms with curious ducks, goats and sheep.
That evening I had dinner with a friend I usually only see once every 5 years. Paul says, "Suzy, you are like a good old book in the library of my life that I tucked away. You re-enter out of nowhere. I dust it off and the memories return." As we catch up, I thought I had some stories to tell but his life is as captivating as a best selling novel. He is an undercover agent in the Special Forces, trains Dutch combat troops in Germany preparing for tours in Kabul, works narcotics infiltration and is a body guard for the royal family. Kind of like Jack Bauer on "24." Everything is "top secret" yet he reveals that he basically gets paid by the government to work out daily. Recently he transported orangutans form the Amsterdam zoo to freedom in Borneo.

The highlight of this trip for me was our 2 hour city tour on bicycles. We looked like a motley crew as we headed out into narrow cobbled streets and over countless bridges. As I peddled, I observed my group behind me. One woman is nearing 70, two are smoking cigarettes, Janice is talking to America on her cell and one unmentionable crashes into a car! She had to pay the driver for damages on the spot. It took complete concentration to cross the busy tram tracks. That morning we rode through Vodelpark and the Red Light district. It was interesting to see the prostitutes as they just woke up to get their coffee dressed in jeans and sneakers.

Holland is the land of the free. With prostitution legal, my group is most inquisitive on this matter. We laughed as Marilyn said," Suzy, they all ask questions on sex. Are they frustrated?"

I arranged a professional guided walking tour of the Red Light district in the oldest part of Amsterdam for the world's oldest profession. Since the 1400's, seamen would dock here to unload. Guides Gabriel and Shuert boldly led us through alleys of half clad ladies. No photos allowed. We're told that some fear it'll go out on the web. Our guides explained that some women are forced here nowadays and some are simply ashamed. Ladies differ in size, shape and color as we strolled through different quarters. On one street they're all obese. We learned to identify the transsexuals by two things surgery can't change - an adam's apple and a straight waist. Tastes differ; the oldest woman here is 76 and only works in summer. Only half use protection and monthly health checks are required.

There are around 1000 prostitutes working 500 windows. They pay 150EUR to rent a window for 6-8 hours, and can make up to 450EUR per day. They pay taxes and can write receipts for services rendered. If the curtain is closed they are not on break. The area is flooded with tourists. Men pay 50EUR for 30 minutes, yet statistics reveal the average time spent is just 6 minutes.

We crossed "Pill Bridge" named for the drugs pushed there and then toured the Erotic Museum with photographs and "tools of the trade" dating back to the 17th century on display. As I pondered and stared at a metal chastity belt, Gabriel said "that blacksmiths always had a spare key which came in handy when the husbands were away at sea." She also insisted the Dutch were far less promiscuous than Americans. I was concerned about my ultra-conservative teachers but nothing seemed to shock them. After awhile, our senses were over saturated and it became dull. The saddest sight was seeing a "heroin hooker". She was emaciated with glazed eyes and so many track marks that she had to shoot it now under her tongue. Police cameras were everywhere 24/7, there is little crime and we felt totally safe.

Pot and hash are legal here in over 400 "coffee shops" that sell joints and "ganja-space milkshakes." Locals told me they felt Americans were oppressed by too many rules and can't understand how our drug companies can sell meds on TV.

Enough on the wild side, this is also the art capital of Europe boasting more museums per square foot than any other city. Marilyn gave us a quick art lesson in a nutshell. She explained that this is the 400 year celebration of Rembrandt (1606-2006). He came from a family rich in windmills. As a child, he was an expert sketcher. Later in medical school, he did anatomical drawings of corpses from criminals. He studied more and soon rose above the Dutch masters with the ability to capture light and shadows in paint. He always began with a black canvas. Though blessed with enormous artistic talent, he couldn't manage his finances. He died penniless and was entombed in a pauper's grave.

Van Gogh grew up a lonely child and was very attached to his mother. His hyper-critical father didn't like his artwork. He went to Paris to study the impressionists. He was schizophrenic and when he had episodes, it was seen in his paintings that grew wilder and wilder each time. He cut off his ear and later committed suicide. His paintings were discovered stored away in his family home. We learned so much here.

Many think they've seen Europe, but miss the countries with the most charm. Here we were enveloped by history, culture and all that the Old Continent should be. Also this wasn't a typical EU vacation with endless museums and cathedrals, but a creative itinerary which provided large fun. Total cost was $1175 plus air (www.AdventuresForSingles.com 877-813-9421 or in GA 770-432-8225). Everyone's favorite stop was Bruges, but for me Amsterdam was an urban masterpiece. I found the Dutch far friendlier than other Europeans. This visit rekindled my love for the Netherlands, that tiny country with 2 names. This time I looked through new eyeballs with my teachers who were experiencing their first trip abroad.

It was a wonderful group. One couple connected whom we later labeled "The Honeymooners" and I hope they last. In flight home on Delta, I noticed among my sleepy group that some were munching on their chocolates that were meant for gifts back home. And once in line at US Customs, some were proudly wearing their new, brightly painted, uncomfortable wooden clogs. I just have to do this trip again.

Tattoos are becoming more and more popular throughout the world, and even more so in the United States and Europe. The hottest celebrities are now seen sporting the latest and trendiest tattoos. In fact, the trend seems to be toward more tattoos, not fewer.

There are countless types of tattoos, and there is no need to fret when trying to decide on the best design for you. Among the most popular modern designs are the butterfly tattoo designs, dragons, tribal patterns, crosses, henna instead of ink, and other designs related to religion - there is a nearly endless supply of potential designs.

Butterflies have been in vogue for a very long time. The beautiful butterfly has adorned all manner of purses, clothes, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and many other things. The key to making you stand out among the crowd is the bright colors that butterfly designs feature. Tattoos of butterflies take advantage of this large color palette in order to create eye-popping designs. However, there are so many butterfly tattoo designs to choose from that you may find yourself confused.

Several of the most popular butterfly designs include tribal-style, fairy, and even Irish-Celtic designs that are often seen on the small of the back. The tribal-style butterfly designs derive from the art of many tribes from all over the world. Some of this art comes from the British Isles, especially Ireland and also Scotland and can come from places as remote as Borneo. The butterfly has long been associated in the popular mind with the fairy.

Often, representations of fairies include wings that resemble those of the butterfly; the opposite is also often true. This beautiful insect can also be thought to stand as a representative of variegated nature herself. Therefore, such butterfly tattoo designs are very popular among contemporary men and women. Butterfly tattoo designs are especially dear to women. Among females, butterfly tattoo designs tend to be the most popular. They appear in a large variety of styles from simple two-color designs to those featuring many colors.

Typically, such tattoos are found on either the shoulder or the arm; this is the same regardless of whether or not the tattoo will be permanent. Some more outgoing and brave people even have butterflies tattooed above the foot or just below the back of the head where the procedure can be very painful.

Butterfly tattoos act, for many people, as a creative outlet wherein the shapes and colors are a method of self-expression. Butterfly tattoo designs form a portion of the marriage between nature, fashion, and artistic expression. Butterflies are commonly used by popular and successful artists as an important design element. From temporary stickers to long-lasting ink tattoos and other forms of body art, tattoo artists enjoy experimenting with the shapes and hues of butterflies.

Temporary tattoos and body art will only last for a limited number of days; some can be removed using paint thinner, and others require only soapy water. Body art is very temporary, and because of this there is more potential for variety in the design.

Historically New Zealand has been in Australia's shadow concerning action against the sexualization of children. The Australia Institute's ground breaking 2006 report "Corporate Paedophilia" prompted a 2008 Senate Inquiry and the formation of advocacy group Kids Free 2 B Kids. However, awareness of the issue in New Zealand has now been stepped up a gear, with initiatives by Auckland University and the National Council of Women of New Zealand (NCWNZ).

Child sexualization degrades childhood through for example sexualized clothing for girls, the presentation of children in advertisements as sexual beings and their exposure to sexually explicit music videos. Its effects are far-reaching and include eating disorders, low self esteem and self-justification for sexual offenders.

In December 2009, undergraduates from Auckland University's Gender and Psychology department presented research on child sexualization and strategies for change. The event was unprecedented, undergraduates not normally participating in public events. However the strength of their work was such that Associate Professor Nicola Gavey was determined to provide a forum for the students to speak to a wider audience.

Showing just how far-reaching the issue is in New Zealand society, a wide range of public sector representatives attended including from the police force, mental health experts, family planning and district health boards.

Courtney Ross, 20, one of the students presenting comments: "New Zealand has that green clean image which extends into the nostalgic idea of childhood: a beach filled wonderland of hokey pokey ice cream and playing in the street, and not coming home until dark. What gets forgotten is that childhood belonged to my father's generation, not to us."

Meanwhile at the recent International Council of Women (ICW-CIF) General Assembly in Johannesburg, a resolution on child sexualization by NCWNZ was passed unanimously, demonstrating the level of international feeling on the issue and New Zealand's leadership in the area. The resolution calls on the 63 ICW affiliated members to urge their governments to ban products and advertising materials that enable children to be seen as sexual objects.

Elizabeth Bang, NCWNZ National President, comments "Although the issue has received international recognition, New Zealand must rise to the challenge by ensuring our domestic focus continues. Our current system relies on self-regulation, which allow the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable to be pushed. NCWNZ wants to see the appropriate measures put in place to protect children, along with an education campaign that informs parents of the potential risks associated with the sexualization of childhood."

In December, NCWNZ launched a Boycott the sexualization of Childhood page on its website ncwnz.org.nz and a Facebook campaign page "Cotton Off Our Kids" - a campaign established in July 2009 by NCWNZ and supported by Family First and other organisations. Cotton On were boycotted for selling T-shirts for babies with slogans such as "I'm living proof my mum is easy " and "Mummy likes it on top".

Both websites are portals through which members of the public can inform NCWNZ of sexualising material. Each Christmas NCWNZ also actively looks for any products or advertising that are not age appropriate.

As a result of the Cotton Off Our Kids Campaign, many of the Cotton On t-shirts were slowly withdrawn from sale. However t-shirts with the slogans "I'm a Tit's Man", "I'm bringing sexy back" and "milk today, beer tomorrow" remain on sale in parts of New Zealand. The Australian Senate Inquiry goes as far as to say that "the purchase and forced wearing of such clothing by children constitutes child abuse... as important as the offensive nature of the message is what its selection conveys about the value the child's parents places on them... and the degree of respect which they attribute to them".

Television and Music Videos

Sexualization of children also manifests itself through television output including music videos and material on the internet, with media regulators acting as a key conduit for complaints. Critics of media regulators argue that the "case by case" approach used is inadequate, the Australia Institute saying that "harm is caused by cumulative exposure to sexualising material from a range of sources."

The Auckland University students produced a montage of clips from music videos showing widespread sexualization. In one clip a boy aged about 9 is seen dressed in adult business attire gyrating his hips to a barely dressed Fergie. Commenting on the clip, Courtney Ross, editor of the video says: "Boys are absolutely being provided with sexualized role models to aspire to, just as much as girls. Boys are taught how they should act around girls and how they should treat girls in sexual terms, just as much as girls are being taught to adopt sexualized behaviours."

The most shocking clip shows the band Girlicious dressed as pornogrophied schoolgirls. Courtney Ross, continues: "What exactly are we saying to people about the sexual maturity of school girls when we portray them as adults infantilised in pigtails and school uniforms, and sexualized with panty flashing and stripping scenes?"

Her colleague on the project, Katie Malone, 21, adds: "The Girlicious clip sent the message that young girls who want to rebel should do so by presenting themselves as sexual objects. It further promotes the idea of the naughty school girl and makes potentially underage and vulnerable girls sexual targets."

Parent and Child Education

If the Australian experience is anything to go by, what New Zealand needs is an individual to champion the issue. Dr Emma Rush, lead author of Corporate Paedophilia comments "Kids Free 2 B Kids founder Julie Gale is phenomenally effective. More than anything else, this is what the issue needed - a champion. Julie is a fantastic networker and has brought together a great range of people to act on the issue. She is also constantly talking about the issue to schools, at conferences and to the wider media".

In her work in schools Julie tells young girls they are being manipulated to believe their value comes from how 'hot' and 'sexy' they look, talking about 'appearance culture' and the pressures on girls to conform. As a comedy performer and write, Julie uses humour to get her message across, and dresses up as a cross between a Bratz doll and a Playboy bunny.

Julie comments "Marketers and advertisers aim to make girls feel they are not good enough so they have to buy products, and this process starts very early. It's important kids and adults understand that sexualization is not about prudish, old fashioned adults, but about the mental health and well being of kids."

Reflecting Elizabeth Bang's desire for an education campaign in New Zealand, the Auckland University undergraduates also identified parent and child education programmes as a key action for change. Nicola Gavey explains "the students concluded it is no use being didactic and saying to parents and children 'this is wrong'. Instead you need to teach critical literacy in terms of how media and advertising are viewed so that the messages portrayed can be unraveled."

This is born out by a 2008 Canterbury University study "Innocence Lost" which revealed that many girls in the 8 to 12 year age group wanted adult type clothing "padded bras, sexy underwear/lingerie, boob tubes, mini skirts and high heeled shoes". The good news is that for girls aged eight to 12 years, parents remain the most influential factor on clothing choices. Meanwhile studies into television viewing show that parents also have a powerful role in buffering children against inappropriate content.

However, Dr Emma Rush cautions against a reliance on education, saying "Media literacy as the answer is a common conclusion but a problematic one in that it puts the onus back on children, parents, teachers and other professionals working with children to 'deal with' the onslaught of premature sexualization from the corporate world. Media literacy is important for all of us, but should pre-teen children really have to be responsible for de-coding premature sexualization? This looks alarmingly like blaming the victims. Rather, the corporate world should back off - we need to stand up together as a community and tell them so, in no uncertain terms."

Effects on Children

Consumer culture gives women and girls a narrow ideal with which to conform - that of a slim, pert breasted, sexually available late teen or twenty-something. As such women are asked to look younger and slimmer, and young girls are asked to adopt sexual markers which are well beyond their years. Innocence lost comments "as what is considered attractive and sexy in contemporary society is conflated more and more with youth, the line between sexual maturity and sexual immaturity is becoming more ambiguous." And hence the line blurs between young girls being sexually appealing, sexually available and appropriate sexual objects.

According to the Australian Senate report, there is evidence that those with paedophilic tendencies use sexualized images of children within advertising material. The report quotes a Police Manager of Forensic Interviewing of Sexual Offenders as saying that sexualized images of children in advertising "provide validation for those considering further exploration of children and sex, as part of a pernicious descending spiral". Meanwhile healthworkers report a marked increase in perpetrators of sexually abusive behaviour using the children's underwear section of home-delivered advertising magazines.

A growing body of organisations claim that because sex is widely represented in our culture as pleasing to adults, girls adopt sexy clothing and behaviour to gain societal and adult approval and are effectively being groomed for paedophiles. This is exacerbated by girls magazines encouraging readers as young as primary school age to have crushes on adult male celebrities.

Despite corporate appeals that their products are demanded by parents and children, there is damning research into the effects of the sexualization of children. A report by the American Psychological Association catalogues a range of adverse effects resulting from girls' exposure to sexually objectifying images, including "development, self-esteem, friendships and intimate relationships, ideas about femininity, body image, physical, mental and sexual health, sexual satisfaction, desire for plastic surgery, risk factors for early pregnancy, abortion and sexually transmitted infections, educational aspirations and future career success."

The direct physical abuse of children lies at the hard edge of child sexualization, which contributes to a climate in which child sex trafficking, child pornography, child sex tourism, child prostitution and child rape thrive. Auckland-based StopDemand.org is actively campaigning on these issues and says that of 20,624 sex offence convictions in New Zealand 1992-2001, 78% involved victims aged 16 years and younger.

The Auckland University students also recommended that sex education programmes be developed in schools to stop sex education happening through reading pornographic material. With pornography as unofficial educator, children not only learn about sex, but about male and female stereotypes and about what constitutes normal sexual behaviour - for example multiple partners and anal sex.

Nicola Gavey observes "Much of the debate at the seminar focused on where pornography stops and mainstream sexualising culture starts. The fact pornographic aesthetics have become so mainstream and normative is a problem in itself because it becomes harder to critique and resist."

Celebrity Culture

A case in point is a poster of Rihanna in the November 16 issue of Woman's Day, which uses the Russian Roulette album cover photograph. She is pictured topless wearing only a wide corset belt and an eye patch - her breasts barely covered by mock barbed wire. The image is reminiscent of sadomasochism and bondage, the eye patch a grim reminder of her recent assault at the hand of her then partner Chris Brown. Yet it sits happily in the magazine alongside a recipe for Broccoli, Sausage and Cheese Popovers.

Corporate Paedophilia documents countless examples of how celebrities such as Rihanna are marketed as aspirational models for girls as young as five, via their inclusion in "tween magazines" aimed at the pre-teen market.

However while many celebrities are happy to be sexualized as part of their branding effort, there is a growing celebrity backlash. Kate Winslet is now as famous for her no-airbrushing stance as she is for her acting. In 2003 she caused an international media storm when she criticised GQ Magazine for digitally altering her physique so that her legs appeared much longer and thinner than in real life. Meanwhile Peaches Geldof is often quoted defending the right to a healthy body image.

Disney Girl magazine also made a recent stand when it refused to print a photograph of nine year old Noah Cyrus, sister of Miley Cyrus, wearing a dominatrix style halloween costume. The editor of Disney Girl Fiona Wright, said of the photos "Being a Disney publication we stress family values and no, we definitely wouldn't run these pictures."

However, look at any Disney cartoon of a female figure, from Cinderella to Pocahontas, and you'll notice that just like Barbie, their waists are narrower than their heads. Anatomically impossible and again providing body image ideals which are at best unrealistic and confusing. A Picasso painting offers as much realism as an aspirational body model.

The issue of eating disorders, one of the many harmful effects of child sexualization, is a serious one with children as young as five suffering from early onset eating disorders.

Katie Malone comments "When young people start to define their feelings of self-worth in terms of what they look like rather than in terms of their talents and individuality, this can lead to the development of other issues such as eating disorders. There is a lack of adequate support for people with eating disorders in New Zealand - many young women have been sent to Australia for inpatient treatment - so it is important that as a society, we work to prevent the incidence of eating disorders".

Courtney Ross adds: "I want to see children receiving multiple examples of body types and looks, to know that they're not fat and ugly just because they aren't the type of girl who is on television and in fashion".

As a society we would do well to take the advice of Eden, the Eating Difficulties Education Network. Their alternative New Year's resolutions include "Love your body and love yourself, give dieting the boot for good, and instead of putting your life on hold until you've reached your 'ideal weight', start living... Hot Wheels first came out to the market in 1968. They debuted with 16 different cars, which are now commonly referred to as the "Sweet Sixteen". These 16 cars came in different colors and were originally produced in both United States production plants and Hong Kong plants. Soon, this was changed to cars being exclusively made in either the United States or Hong Kong, and by 1972 all of the Hot Wheels cars were being manufactured solely in Hong Kong.

From 1968 to 1977, all of the Hot Wheels cars had tires with painted on red lines around them. This was a very distinguishable trait of these early Hot Wheel designs and is the reason why this age of Hot Wheels production is known as the "Redline Era" and the cars themselves are known as Redline Hot Wheels.

The Redliners stood out from the competition in the small model car for a variety of reasons that helped to make them so popular. They were also known as California Custom Miniatures at the time and the Redline Hot Wheels cars reflected American society and culture, as well as American cars.

Of the first 16 models introduced in 1968, 9 of them were customized versions of actual, in-production vehicles of the time and the other 7 models were show cars and racing cars. Some of the traits these Redline Hot Wheels had that make them easily recognizable are:

  • Spectaflame Paint: This paint was metallic in nature and had many bright, shiny and eye-catching colors.
  • Redline Wheels: As mentioned, all of the original Hot Wheels are now known as Redline Hot Wheels, for the red paint around the tires.
  • Chrome Rims/Hubs: Another famous trait is the chrome rims. When the cars were being made both in Hong Kong and the United States, the Hong Kong wheels typically had shinier, brighter chrome.
  • Customization: While the Redliners were based off of actual cars, they were all customized and were designed to portray a custom or "hot rod" style. These customizations often included emphasizing the raw power of the engine.

Grading Redline Hot Wheels

There is a big market for the collecting of the original Redline cars. Whether you are looking to complete your own collection or looking to sell your old toys, it is important to know where you stand. Grading collectibles like this can be a subjective art, with different collectors or buyers looking for different elements. Some of the different grading levels to be aware of are:

  • A "mint condition" Redline will seem almost completely original and unused. The chrome wheels are perfect, the paint isn't chipped or faded heavily and there are no major scratches or marks.
  • A "near mint" car may appear largely intact but has the minor defects that hinder it being rated as mint. These include minor fading or chipping of paint, some damage to the chrome wheels and so on.
  • An "excellent" Redline will have visible damage to the paint, the wheels and the body. While it completes a collection it would not be mistaken for an unused or mint level collectible.
Obviously the more damage to a particular car, the lower it will be rated and the less it will be worth. So it's best to do your research, ask questions and that way you'll have added to your collection wisely.

We've all seen them. Those sexy tattoo designs on a woman's lower back that turns a man's head, captures his attention, and fills his mind with sexy thoughts. Of course I'm talking about the classic Tramp Stamp. Seeing that sexy little inked artwork peeking above a lady's jeans usually sends a man's mind into overdrive with admiring thoughts and fantasies.

Believe me ladies, a sexy tramp stamp is like 100 proof visual catnip for men. When we see that tramp stamp peeking out above your jeans, we can't help but look and fantasize. We can't help it! I once walked straight into a cement light pole because I couldn't take my eyes off a young lady's tramp stamp.

Not only can a well-placed tattoo charm a man's thoughts, it also can work miracles for the woman sporting such a design. A tattoo in the right location, of the right design, can enhance how a woman feels about herself, her self image, and gives her a sudden new charismatic effect on men.

Let's face it, every woman wants to be thought of as sexy, desirable, and charming. A carefully chosen feminine tattoo in the right place, helps achieve this goal. A woman expresses herself, her personality, and her femininity through her body art designs.

Location, Location, Location

The sexiness of feminine skin art is based on location and design. Whether she feels her tattoo design is sexy or trashy often can be reflected in her self image. If she loves her tattoo art, she's more confident and often has an air of confidence in her aura. She's knows she's sexy and it shows in her attitude.

So, what are a few places on a woman's body where tattoos can have the most devastating sensual effects?

The Classic Popular 'Tramp Stamp'

The lower back is almost universally thought of as an ideal location for a sexy tattoo. Better known as the Tramp Stamp, a lovely sexy tramp stamp plays havoc with a man's thoughts and fantasies. How do I know this?

Well, I'm a typical average guy, as are all of my male friends. I know how most men think. It's no secret we think sexy thoughts when we see a tramp stamp. All it takes to light our fuse and prime our lusty thoughts is a little sexy skin art peeking out above the jeans. As men, we can't help it. It's genetic.

Sexy Shoulder Art

The shapely feminine shoulder is another part of the body that is perfect for a carefully selected tattoo. A beautiful display of flowers on a woman's shoulder is very sexy as long as the design is suitable to the woman's personality and is feminine in nature.

Hip & Waist Tattoos

Right above the hip on the waist is another area of the body that's becoming more popular among female tattoo adventurists.

Tattoos in this area, on the sides above the hips, are highly flattering to a woman's body curves and figure. A tattoo on a woman's side can look super sensual when she's wearing jeans, a bikini, or sexy panties.

The Lower Tummy - The Hot 'V' Zone

Ahh yes...the lower tummy. This is an imaginative, mysterious, sensuous place for a feminine tattoo. A tattoo in this area is super provocative when peaking out of low cut jeans. And when a new lover discovers such a tattoo, expect the fireworks of passion to explode.

Again, choose the design carefully before getting inked. Let's face it, a carefully chosen design adds to the mystery and sensuality. When choosing a design though, think ahead twenty or thirty years.

Finally...

Before getting inked, think how a tattoo will affect you after you're married, you're in a job, have kids, going on a honeymoon, or are in a profession or job. Choose carefully and think carefully, and think of the future before getting inked. Tattoos can be a visual aphrodisiac. But always remember, tattoos are permanent.

Remember, getting a tattoo is one of those life-changing events we never forget. Getting a tattoo is like losing your virginity. You'll remember the time, the place, the surroundings, and the people.

I got my first ink job in an dingy less-than-sanitary ink shop, on Shanghai St. near the Blue Dolphin Bar in Hong Kong, China. I was a very inebriated 19 year old young sailor in the navy. That was my first big mistake.

Later, for my second big mistake, I got another ink job in Kowloon, a ferry ride across the bay from Hong Kong. My life-long regret is I was too quick in choosing designs, and tattoo locations, I'd be happy with.

If I had to do it over again, I would be much more careful in choosing the right design. Also, I would think long and hard about where (on my body) I wanted the tattoos.

You want more intimacy and caressing; he wants that porn-star he watched last night on HBO. How can you reconcile two distinct sexual desires in one bedroom?

For months, I used to yell at my lover for not being attentive to my sexual yens. I'd shriek, "Our sex life is too predictable and... foreplay, you don't even know what that is anymore."

Realizing that perpetual bitching did zilch for my carnal yearnings, I turned to the most libelous of places- Hollywood- for help.

"What's Hollywood got to do with sex," you snort? Everything. See, whether we admit it to ourselves or not, those tear-jerking chick-flicks that paint love and everlasting sex as the ideal scenario have lasting effects on impressionable, not to mention temperamental women like us.

Hollywood presents the good sex-life and sometimes, you want a taste of that good sex life don't you? I used to blame my lover for not doing his part to make sweltering sex and multi-orgasms a reality for me.

Now I've realized that if I want more than the five-minute bed work over that my lover likes to call "doing it", I have to be somewhat of an actress myself.

In short, I give my lover what he wants- a new mysterious lover that he's never met- and I get what I want- hot, tantalizing love-making that lasts way more than five minutes with lots of foreplay.

How can you get in on this type of action? It's easy when you use your imagination and follow the principles of giving a little in order to get a lot.

Here's my recipe for turning my bedroom into a love den.

1. Create your sexual fantasy

2. Become the star of your sexual fantasy

3. Play out this sexual fantasy for your lover

1. Creating your sexual fantasy

If you watch the daily soaps, creating your sexual fantasy becomes a no-brainer. There's the cute boat boy at the yacht-club, the cable guy with bulging muscles that drops in to fix the tube, and then there's Mister Casanova that can play your body like a cello and turn you into a boudoir soprano.

Picking your ideal man

Once you have your ideal fantasy man in mind, now you need to figure out what kind of woman he's after and role-play this lady. Lets say that the yacht-club cutie is looking for a chick in some tight, short white skirt, with a breast clinging top.

Next, what's the cable hunk in the mood for- a nerdy looking chick with a bob and bifocals that she can toss in an instant, just to reveal her sexy twin- the inner Playgirl? And then we have Mister Casanova, he'll probably do anything with a vagina so all imagining is left up to you.

2. Become the star of your sexual fantasy

Here's the super fun part. We all have an inner nympho so let her free. This inner sex kitten can take on limitless incarnations, like the sexy teacher, the dominatrix, the hooker and or the innocent chick nursing an Electra complex. You can switch your Venus persona as often as you change your thongs.

Notwithstanding, if you come up dry on these sexual fantasies, check out Nancy Friday's "Secret Garden", she'll whet, if not corrupt your erotic nature.

3. Play out this sexual fantasy for your lover

If there was ever not a time to be bashful it's when you're asking for a raise and when you're having sex. Remember the first time, with every new guy. Wasn't it great!

That greatness comes from all of the sexual improvisation. You were new to your lover and your lover was new to you- remember this as you star in your real-life sexual fantasy.

Repeat this to yourself, "I am new to my lover and my lover is new to me." Repeat this even if you've slept with this guy a hundred times.

So now as you're playing the teacher, dominatrix or virgin for your lover, consider this foreplay.

Preparing for dulcet foreplay

1. Dress the part. An essential key to looking like a new lover, is dressing like one. In fact, the more odd your sexual character, and thus costume, the better. This does not mean that you go out and spend a fortune on new clothes. Just wear the ones you already have in your own closet, or you lover's closet, in a new way. For example, put on a cocktail dress, a bathing suite, or even make a suite out of newspapers.

In all reality, your lover does not care about what you look like, what matters is the sexual intrigue you create. When you do something completely out of left field it creates mystery and sexual interest.

2. Act the part. My favorite act for foreplay is dancing. When dancing, I let myself go and focus exclusively on my lover, as if he is the only person in the entire world. Not matter what sexual fantasy I'm acting out, my lover is the audience, the only audience, and I make sure he knows it.

To illustrate acting the part, a few weeks ago, I invented the cave woman fantasy. It's truly wild, and the costume? It's just some old worn out clothes that I should have trashed but found better uses for. The cave woman crawls all over the floor and uncontrollably attacks her lover with kisses.

Another sexual star is the teacher. In her role, the teacher sits her lover in a chair and points out some homework that has not been done. You can make the homework the sexual fantasies that you want fulfilled. And each time you rant off an unfulfilled assignment, you tap your lover with a ruler. This constant slapping with the ruler will build a lot of useful sexual tension. Don't let it go to waste.

3.Enjoy each moment. If you want stellar sex, stay in the moment. You stay in the moment when you have absolutely no clue what's going to happen next. But more importantly, you stay in the moment when you focus exclusively on one thing. In this case, focus your intentions exclusively on your lover.

It may appear that you are denying yourself if you focus on your lover. You're not. Let the attention that you give to your lover arouse you. That way, you build a love loop. You arouse your lover and his enticed response arouses you, you continue to arouse him and the cycle continues.

Alas, one man's aphrodisiac is another man's... well he's probably just impotent. Sometimes your rendition of a sexual fantasy may seem like pure nonsense to your lover, then again it could be worthy of a Grammy in the eyes of your lover. The key is, change your sexual fantasies often, as often as you'd like to have fulfilling lovemaking

Lipstick, like its counterpart makeup has become something that most women cannot live without. Women have to apply "their face" before leaving their house and touch up throughout the day. As one of the most popular makeup products on the market, lipstick has had a long history of use, which has not been all good. However, overtime it has gained huge popularity for women all over the world.

The first types of lipstick were make out of crushed precious jewels, fucus-algin, iodine and bromine, and crushed carmine beetles. Mesopatamian and Egyptian women invented lipstick as a way to decorate their lips along with their faces. Although not much is known about the progression of lipstick from Cleopatra's time in 60 B.C. to the 16th century, Queen Elizabeth I of England made lipstick popular through her vogue style of a pale face with reddened lips. At this time only upper class women wore red lipstick along with actors. However, rouge colored lips were not accepted by all of England's society. A movement in the 17th century headed by pastor Thomas Hall declared wearing lipstick as "the Devil's work." Women who wore lipstick were in contempt of trying to seduce men into lustful acts. Additionally, in 1770 the British Parliament passed a law against wearing lipstick, stating that women who seduced men into marrying them through their lipstick could be tried for witchcraft. When Queen Victoria took the thrown she out rightly denounced the wearing of lipstick. Lipstick was only for prostitutes, sinners and outcasts of society. England wouldn't fully accept lipstick until the early 20th century.

The first manufactured lipstick was made by a French cosmetic company, Guerlain in 1884. At this time lipstick for everyday use was still unaccepted in the US. However during the Roaring 20's actresses such as Sarah Bernhardt began to wear lipstick outside the theater. The film industry gave lipstick a new found popularity and women were expected to wear lipstick as their patriotic duty during World War I. In the 1930's the first beauty parlors were opened, where women could learn makeup tips.

Throughout time, the popularity of lipstick can be contributed to high-powered women, fashion models, or actresses. It is these women such as Queen Elizabeth I, Sarah Bernhardt, Elizabeth Arden, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor who are icons that made lipstick popular in their time. Women and teen girls idolized these women back then and the trend has continued into present day. Singers, actresses, and fashion models are adorned throughout the pages of magazines, on television and on billboards. Imitating their style, fashion and makeup is a popular technique in society.
Although, there are thousands of varieties, brands and colors of lipsticks now a days, red lipstick is still considered a sexy, luring and powerful color. However, it doesn't hold its infamous back-story of shame or prostitution. Women in the 21st century coordinate their lipstick along with their makeup to match their clothes or feelings.
So why do so many women wear lipstick? What is the obsession with painting our lips red, when our lips are naturally pink already? During sex blood rushes throughout the body causing our lips to redden. By painting our lips red or wearing lipstick, women can be more sexually appealing to the opposite sex. Additionally feeling sexy gives women power, and boosts her self-confidence. Therefore women are a sex symbol within society.

Lipstick and makeup still remains a symbol of adult sexuality. Wearing lipstick is a symbol of a woman's maturity. However the age of womanhood has been blurred over the years and there is still an objection from parents to hold off the age when girls should start wearing makeup and lipstick. Although, if you check out any high school in America there is an overwhelming abundance of teenagers wearing makeup. Additionally cosmetic companies are advertising to the younger market. This just proves that women throughout the world cannot live without their makeup and most carry it with them daily. Thus women feel naked without their lipstick

Hi seed!

Knowing that you have some strong opinions, that I mostly agree with; I was wondering where you stand on plastic surgery?

Does it matter if someone is born a 10 or if they pay to get there?

If you've had work done, and your sweetie doesn't ask, when should you tell?

I mean, you shouldn't have to say hello, I'm so and so and I've been cut open for vanity sake, right?

But you don't want to be left to explain where your firstborns nose really came from either.
Cup-size dilemma Dear CSD
Where do I stand on plastic surgery?

Fun. Finally a question that one can chomp down on and sink their teeth into. A question that doesn't orbit the shallowness of relationship crises. A question that is not masked with superficiality. A question so filled with substance that it wouldn't be appropriate to jump into a sarcastic laced tirade.

The mental exertion required to answer this important question will surely leave me enervated.

Boob, tits, high beams, hooters, d-cups, fun bags and lactation. Every hot blooded man would ache with excitement for an opportunity to advise women on what they need to do with their knockers.

I know CSD you are not necessarily talking about breast implants, however, after reading between the lines and seeing your picture I came to the conclusion that was the true intention of your query. Therefore, that is the prime course my answer will follow. Hopefully with style and grace. And, of course a little titillation.

CSD what the hell do you need implants for? You're a hot young woman.

I'm ecstatic that you agree with most of my strong thrusting opinions. I'm more elated that you've taken the time to read them. After all I don't want everyone to agree, I really prefer people to think for themselves and draw their own conclusion. Cause in the grand scheme of things if all we do is agreey, agreey (the previous word is not a real word) thingy, then what would be the point of all of us existing?

Ewwwweee I just had a horrible thought: what if we all thought alike and our thoughts were derived from the mind of GWB. I need to find a porcelain bowl - now. Masturbation would quickly become a thing of the past. Wouldn't it?

Public Service Announcement

Please think for yourself.

end PSA

To get to the meat of your question. Boobs are really, really neat. They are fun to look at. They are fun to tweak. They are fun to watch go bouncy, bouncy when you run. They are fun to cuddle with. For us guys and you gals too - they are one of the first places we clamp onto when we are brought into this world. They provide us with both comfort and nourishment. For most guys the obsession starts with the first suckle and continues throughout our lives.

It is virtually impossible to write about boobs and sound intelligent.

For others life sends them south to different more hairy pastures. Not that there is anything wrong with that. If that's the way you're wired - that's the way you're wired.

For most women they represent a commonality with the sisterhood. Something to be explored and talked about during pillow fights. Something to control the minds and nether regions of us weak-kneed men. Boobs are power.

For others, they tend to linger. Mommy tries to pry their sultry lips away, but, she can't. Their precious angels keep coming back for more and more. A tweak , a caress and a suckle or two.

"That's all I want. That's all I need."

"Sherry you're 23 now, shouldn't you be heading south."

"No. I love softball, soccer and you. Please let me stay. I beg of you."

The above dialogue is entirely fictitious and is meant to illustrate a possible starting point for lesbianism. Not all lesbians play softball or soccer. They may. However, I'm pretty sure that they are a mixed bag like all humans. I'm also pretty sure they have a variety of interests scanning all aspects of life. The one thing I'm certain of is that they love your boobs. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

As for my stance. Frankly I don't get it. Sure I love breasts. I love the human body. I can't possibly understand what it is like to be a woman. Us guys have it simple, for us competition comes in the form of sports, business and in the current state of the world, war. Since the beginning of time we've been the hunter and provider. For you guys (the fairer sex), life seemed to be more about the softer aspects of life. Child-birth, nurturing, maintaining a home and providing emotional support. What a friggen hell that must be: taking care of our simple minds and over developed egos.

Then throw into the equation "equality" and how the hell are you guys (girls) supposed to cope? On one hand you still have to give birth, nurture and provide comfort.

On the other, you've now entered the business arena in search of independence and equality.

The thing is, none of us can ever truly be equal or independent for that matter. We need each other. I need boobs. Ooops, that just slipped in. That is what this big mess is all about. Finding someone to complement you. Or me for that matter. I truly believe that this equality we are all so desperately trying to achieve really relates to couples. Be it straight, gay or any other combination. Each partner provides strengths and weaknesses to the relationship equation and if it is the right combination it will balance it out and create a harmonious existence.

That brings us back to your tits. My opinion is: don't alter them. I'm sure they are beautiful just the way they are. If you'd like: I could take a peak at them for you. Any guy who isn't a big prick would be lucky to be able to gently caress and fondle them. I sincerely mean that. Like I said I can't imagine what it would be like to be a woman. However, it really is not worth the effort to alter nature in attempts to win over some ass. And, I even like looking at fake hooters. But, and this is a big but, for me I wouldn't be interested in a woman who got a boob job. Unless they were to get a brain job to adjust for their mental shortcomings too.

Looks and life are ephemeral. That is until medical research adds another gazillion years to our life-span. Even though I'm not sure we are supposed to be messing with our appearances for vanity reasons. It saddens me that so much emphasis is placed upon appearance that sometimes we have to just to compete. It's time to change course and say *!**@!** it. Don't you think?

CSD I know you'll do whatever you feel. That is a good thing. And, if you've got it in your head to get some "work" done, you're likely looking for someone to give you encouragement and support your decision. You'll likely disregard those who don't. I'm just not going to be the one who says: go ahead, alter yourself. I think that if you do you will be making a mistake and even if you catch the eye of whomever you're looking for it will be a shallow, superficial victory.

Being a 10 may open doors for you, however, being a 10 of heart, mind and soul is of far greater intrinsic value. Unfortunately, often with looks comes shallowness and the pursuit of beauty can leave one empty. So, yes it does matter if you pay to get that way. If you pay - in my estimation you are nothing more than a fraud.

As for telling your suitors of the "work" you've had done. Well that is entirely up to you. If you've had a boob job and he can't figure it out for himself: where are you trolling for your Neanderthals? The point is: it is your life and your past, what you choose to reveal is your business. Just don't be retarded about it. We may be simple, however, most of us know the goods.

Finally, I'm sure you were being silly when you spoke of your first-born. Last time I checked: plastic surgery doesn't alter genetics. Nevertheless, you bring up a good point. If one spends the big dough to go from troll to swan and then chooses to have children, instead of setting aside an educational fund for their offspring it may be necessary to set aside a surgery fund. Just think of the fantastic friggen message surgery sends to the kids. May as well start them off with illusions and lies.

What a ridiculous time we live in.

I've just about exhausted my key strokes on this one. Boobs, boobs, boobs, boobs, boobs...... switching from key to another kind of stroke soon. Just kidding.

I'm going to leave you with a little story. As much as I think that alteration for vanity reasons is ludicrous, I do believe that there are instances where it may be necessary. After all we've evolved as a society and part of the evolution is medical advances. Accident and assault victims spring to mind.

A good friend of mine had met a saucy little vixen from Seattle recently. He explained to me how their night turned into morning and with morning came passion. In this case, the passion turned to sex. In great exhaustive detail, he painted a picture of nudity and contorting bodies. His descriptions left little to the imagination. Seconds of bliss, turned to minutes and eventually turned into hours. Climax followed by respite was repeated in endless cycles of pleasure. Until.....until as he so aptly described his guest Jo Jo (name has been changed to protect her identity. Her real name is Joann.) was nearing release.

Next - during the heat of the moment, while in the throes of passion: CHOMP. My friend explains a penile vice was attached that was nearing the land of Bobbit. His screams were apparently so loud that every tenant on each of the 17 floors of his building must've heard them. He screamed repeatedly: STOP BITING! He tells me she looked hot, flustered, dazed and confused all at the same time.

Finally she unclamped. A tooth halo had formed around his junk. Skin was broken.

When he shared his ordeal, I was slightly disturbed.

"Seed, do you want to take a look at my dick?"

"Uhm, no."

"You've got to see this."

"No."

"Please!"

"Ok, how about next Tuesday?"

"Sure, that will work for me."

I'm hoping it heals by Tuesday. The point is: fake boobs won't make you a better person.

As for Lesbians - I have an innate ability: I can spot a dyke in a lineup.

In my friend's instance, if the clamp wasn't released and he lost his tally-whacker, I believe plastic surgery would make perfect sense.

Retaining a positive body image in a society which is clearly obsessed with how we look and how much we weigh can be quite difficult but if we are going to find and keep that elusive positive body image, then we should not pay heed to any negative communications regarding how we look. There is no doubt that there is a constant bombardment of negative impressions from the media alone, so it is important that we boost our self-esteem to keep ourselves resilient and strong and this way, that positive body image and inner confidence can be ours.

To find that positive body image, we need to look within so that we can establish what is important to us in the long-term because 'losing weight' will not guarantee us happiness in the future, it might simply be a symptom of why we have such self-doubts about our own body shape.

The following tips may help when identifying the key elements to a positive body image:

· Sadly, many of us judge individual parts of our bodies instead of focussing on our bodies as a whole. Perhaps we long for a slimmer and more defined waist and fail to see our shapely legs. Always try to see the positive instead.

· Don't set complete faith in jumping on the scales to see how many pounds have been lost. It's not all about losing weight; it's about shaping up and feeling fit and healthy. A sensible weight loss is fine, but settle at the weight that feels comfortable for you. Don't overdo it.

· Remember that your weight will vary and you might never regain the weight you were as a teenager. Don't focus on the negative, focus on feeling good about yourself now.

· If watching programs that highlight stick thin women is upsetting, then don't watch. Focus instead on finding a dress style that epitomises the beautiful person within.

· If you have a curvy shape, revel in it. Don't suppress your natural curves.

· If you spend hours checking the mirror and worrying about your shape, then make a pact with yourself to stop right now. Focus instead on using some visualisation techniques as these will really boost your internal positive body image.

There is nothing as beautiful as a confident person. If you're not convinced, think about those people around you who are incredibly charismatic and attractive, although may not be beautiful in a media painted sense, perhaps they shine because of their natural confidence, sense of humour and love of life. If we can touch and boost our inner spirit, promote all that is good about us as individuals and make the most of our natural qualities, then we will be able to find that positive body image and best of all, keep it for good.

Hot Women With Art Body Painting No Limit

I'm standing in my studio, watching ten women painting in silence with exquisite focus and concentration, and the energy is just humming. All of a sudden I hear a groan from one of the women and the words "Oh no, I hate it. It's so ugly". I smile, feeling a sense of great relief and dread.

Relief because another woman has just blindly stumbled into her gateway to creative freedom. Dread because I know the resistance and arguments I am going to be coming up against as I try to talk her out of destroying what she deems ugly and to even to begin to take the radical step of accepting what she has created with curiosity and compassion. I have to be quick here because women are nothing if not stealthy and crafty and will waste little time in eradicating the evidence of what they consider unattractive art.

This is a class in what's known as intuitive painting or process painting. The purpose of this kind of painting is to learn to listen deeply to yourself and to then courageously express what you find, without censoring anything,in a spirit of spontaneity, surrendering to the creative process. It's very different from typical art classes where the primary focus is on developing technique and ending up with a pleasing product. This type of class uses art and painting as a way to get more in touch with the inner world of soul and psyche. The focus is exclusively on exploring and expressing that internal process.

This road is difficult for most women, because even though many of us have done some kind of self investigation and recognize the value inherent in that search, we are still fighting an uphill battle against a very strong cultural bias that teaches us to place the greatest value on what is outside of us. We are taught that feelings and an inner life are fine as far as they go, but what is truly worthwhile is how we look, what we own, who we know, and where we find ourselves on the economic and status hierarchy.

The mysterious stirrings of our soul, the needs of our hearts, the messages from our bodies, and the genius of our intuition, are STILL, even after all of the battles for liberation that we have fought, denigrated and considered trivial and unimportant, unrealistic and immature. But in the world of the process arts the realm of psyche and dreams, imagination and feelings are staunchly defended as sacrosanct and even given center stage.

The women in my painting class know the rules of intuitive painting, one of which is that they are not to destroy anything or cover up what they have done just because they don't like it or have a negative reaction to it. They know what they are attempting here is an exercise in radical self acceptance which means embracing everything that comes out of them especially if it makes them uncomfortable because there's "gold in them thar hills" of the psyche that they can mine to great advantage if they are just willing to stay with the discomfort. But the urge to disavow the abomination of a perceived ugly painting by making it disappear can be overwhelming.

There are four words in the English language that you should never use in reference to a western 21st century woman if you don't want to get your teeth knocked out. Those four little words are ugly, fat, bitch and selfish.

Each of these four words addresses an issue of great importance for a woman, and what they all have in common is that they are keys to unlocking the door to our forbidden feminine power. And one thing you can count on is that each of these four issues will show up eventually if a woman seriously gives herself over to making her own art. Which is one reason that women often shy away from the creative process.

These words have extremely negative connotations for a woman and have been used to denigrate and control us for a very long time. The charge around them is so intense that as soon as we hear them we throw up our hands, recoil into a place of shame, close our eyes and back away from them as if they were Kryptonite and we were Super Girl. Since we are unwilling to be curious and explore them, we never get to see that in actuality these four words describe very positive qualities and archetypal energies that we desperately need if we are going to be complete, whole, actualized and effective feminine creators of our own lives.

One of the biggest internal obstacles to reclaiming our power is a potent archetype at work in most women's psyches that can be called the Inner Good Girl. The Good Girl lives for approval and she garners that approval by keeping women small and safe and non-threatening. She is not interested in growing up and is content to remain eternally young. Ultimately, she is the one that keeps a woman from being able to develop and flourish as someone who is strong and potent, gutsy and capable of taking authority over her own life. And the Good Girl never wants to risk being fat, selfish, ugly or bitchy.

If a woman takes her creative life seriously, if she makes a commitment to herself and devotes herself to her creative work, she will eventually reach a crossroads where she has to confront the Inner Good Girl and the list of Good Girl rules if she wants to continue creating with passion and authenticity.

We all know what those rules are.Smile, smile, smile, be sweet and nice, never get mad (or even annoyed),look pretty (which of course includes being thin), smell good, be clean and neat and always be pleasing and accommodating. Don't be loud and stay in the background. What you think or feel is not really all that important. Don't upset anyone. And never, ever make another person uncomfortable. In the Good Girl world perfection is an attainable goal and you need to work relentlessly, tirelessly, exhaustively, to be the absolute best mother, daughter, wife and friend you can be, all the while berating yourself because you inexplicably and continuously fall short of the mark.

When a woman starts her creative life she brings these same attitudes and expectations to her art. She only allows herself to paint pretty paintings that are perfect in every way. Paintings that are nice and make people smile. She is unwilling to risk disturbing or intense color or imagery; nothing that is too strong or stands out too much. But painting in this way eventually leaves her feeling bored and stifled. Pretty can be wonderful as part of a larger repertoire, but if it's all you are allowed to do it eventually becomes both a noose and a cage.

At a certain point in her creative process a woman needs to be willing to ditch the Good Girl by breaking the Good Girl rules. But breaking those rules leads a woman into the territory of the shadow side of the Good Girl, the dreaded yet fascinating BAD GIRL!

The Bad Girl is alive and well in most women's psyches and is the part of us who is sick and tired of the long list of restrictions that hem in her wild and juicy self. She is feisty and bold, full of audacity and unafraid to go for what she wants. She is adventurous and courageous, and enjoys the excitement that comes with taking positive life-affirming risks.

But our relationship to her has a strong shame and shadow element so she often gets expressed in way's that end up hurting us. She is the one who eats the whole container of the mint chocolate chip ice cream in one sitting, who doesn't return necessary phone calls to annoying family members, who spends money that she doesn't have on clothes or shoes, and who has inappropriate relationships with men or women that aren't good for her. What I am presenting here is a way to reclaim the Bad Girl energy, through painting, that is affirming and positive. To recognize that what we have been calling bad are disowned parts of ourselves that need to be brought back home.

THE SELFISH GIRL: Unafraid of putting herself first, of being needy and proud of it, of nurturing herself, of conserving her own energy, of filling her own well, willing to have limits, making her own self care her first priority, willing to be her own good mother, willing to take time just for herself, willing to confront and overcome her guilt about taking care of herself.

This is the first Bad Girl to show up when a woman attempts to have a viable creative life, and the first one I see when a woman walks in the door of my studio to attend a painting class. I hear over and over again from these women how much they have lost themselves in taking care of everyone else. How tired they are of putting everyone else's needs first and that they have come to this class because they want to do something that has no visible benefit to anyone else.

For a woman to be creative she needs to be willing to take time just for herself. She needs uninterrupted periods when she is able to enter her studio, sit down at her computer or her easel, and see what wants to come. She needs to let herself get dreamy, do nothing, stare out the window, and be seemingly unproductive. During these interludes in which she drops into a creative trance she is inviting the muse to enter her and inviting the often secret and mysterious movement of her soul to express itself.

In these moments, she begins to face herself through her art. She is able to get quiet enough so that she can listen deeply and start to ask some essential questions such as "What do I think? What do I like? What do I really want? What moves me, brings me pleasure, makes me feel alive.?" It is a me, myself and I time, a time that needs to be treated as sacred and inviolable in order to allow those creative juices to flow unimpeded and to eventually turn into a raging, rushing river.

However, it's usually not long before the telephone rings or someone taps (or sometimes pounds ) on the studio door with the cry of "I need you! And I need you RIGHT NOW!" It could be a friend, a child, a mother a husband, a work obligation, or a pipe that has just sprung a leak. All of a sudden, somebody else's needs become more important than her need to be creative, and the woman is faced with the eternal female question." Do I once again close the door to my studio and turn my back on the needs of my own soul? Do I once again prove how reliable, dutiful, compassionate , caring, self sacrificing, available, loving, responsible I am, at the terrible price of my own creative self? Knowing that I have the small, and getting smaller consolation of being able to say "Well at least no one is going to be able to call me selfish!"

THE UGLY GIRL: Willing to buck the tide, to be her own unique self, to not always conform , to step away from the need for approval, to be willing to risk censure, to step outside of the box of what is acceptable as a woman in this culture, willing to be weird, different, unique, outrageous, bold.

The most common lament or desire that I hear from my women painting student's is "But I just want my painting to be beautiful."

For most women, beauty is a need, a deep irrational hunger, and an unconscious compulsion. Our identification with the need to be beautiful is so great and so ingrained that we rarely, if ever, question it. Beauty is the key to the magic kingdom of well- being, happiness and success. It is the source of our value, the guarantee of love, our only legitimate access to power, and on a very deep level has meant survival itself. Because so much is at stake, the pressure a woman feels to be beautiful and to create something beautiful is enormous.

Our whole relationship to beauty shows up painfully and clearly in the painting process. While she is painting, there is always some beauty standard- whether she is aware of it or not- that a woman is trying to live up to. Maybe the ideal is of a painting that is neat and flawless where no mistakes or messiness, no drips or uneven lines are allowed. Or the idealized vision may be one of a painting that is balanced and symmetrical, a paragon of elegance, grace, and impeccable good taste. In this version of perfection, all the colors must match, and can only be in the range of muted pastels with the overall effect being soothing and pleasant, like a well put together design in a home and garden magazine.

Whatever the ideal, the energy put into achieving it is relentless. When I watch a woman paint I am always amazed by the passion she has for endlessly fussing over and fixing her paintings. Spontaneity is out of the question. She just takes it for granted that her painting must be well thought out, planned, and organized , and under as much of her control as is humanly possible. She is used to not trusting in her own innate beauty, and expects that the quest for beauty will entail nonstop work. She never questions the ceaseless dieting and exercising, the hours spent shopping for just the right outfit and the worrying over her skin, her hair, her nails. She always has and always will fall short of the beauty mark and just assumes that beauty is something she will continually struggle for and rarely, if ever, achieve.

The really sad thing is that she sees nothing wrong with this fretful and anxious approach to her self and to her artwork. This ceaseless and ultimately hopeless striving for the unattainable ideal is just the norm. It's really the only thing she has ever known.

These narrow constraints of beauty that a woman finds herself tangled in are always some variation on the Good Girl creed. These socially accepted standards are based on a definition of beauty that is related to being nice and non threatening, to not standing out too much and conforming to an established norm that is pleasant but not powerful. Beauty is related to compliance and convention, to following the rules and to fitting in. The Good Girl beauty ideal means that it's not OK to just be herself, warts and all. She needs to clean herself up and make herself acceptable.

When a woman is painting, the Ugly Girl often sneaks in as a mistake or imperfection, a smear or a smudge, something messy or uncontrolled. When the woman tries to clean up the mess, she finds with increasing horror that the muddle only continues to grow. She is constantly having technical calamities. The paint drips or runs, she can't control her brush, chaos reigns, and it seems like there is nothing she can do to make it stop.

She is desperate to get back to pretty. In risking spontaneity, she has found, to her horror, that she has created something that appears harsh or loud or imperfect. Or,even worse, something grotesque or malformed. She frantically tries painting more safe images, more flowers, rainbows, peaceful landscapes . But the flowers develop sharp edges and dark colors and grow completely out of control , the rainbow colors become wildly fluorescent , and the landscapes becomes populated with darkly mysterious shapes and figures .

At this point she has stepped out of the confines of charming and attractive, and into an unfamiliar landscape of the wild, the untamed the unkempt and disheveled. This is often the beginning of a relationship to the inner Wise Old Woman archetype, also known as the Witch. This is the face of the deep feminine that doesn't care about appearances . After all, the Witch walks around with missing teeth and warts, and obviously doesn't care what other people think. This is an awakening of the aspect of a woman's soul who is no longer a slave to approval and who has begun to walk down the long road away from woman as product and commodity.

THE FAT GIRL: Willing to be big, be visible, to come out of hiding, to be a woman and not a little girl, to take up space, to be hungry, to say what she wants, to know what she wants, to be full of herself, to be too big for her britches, to be a full adult, unafraid to say yes! A fat girl isn't afraid to take up space and to take her place in the world.

In my studio I offer high quality paper that is of ample size, but students can tape the sheets together to make even larger paintings. It's a heady time when a woman can let herself spread out and take up some real space, when she can make a HUGE painting, one that can sometimes cover an entire wall.

Creating a giant painting is a dizzying and terrifying prospect, and a woman often needs lots of encouragement and permission to take this step. In fact I usually need to nudge her a little. She will start with saying something about MAYBE needing to go a little bigger with her work. She feels something pushing on her, wanting to come through, and so she will ask if it's OK to use two pieces of paper instead of one. I generously offer to get the paper for her but come back with four pieces of paper, instead of the asked for two. No matter how "nice" she is, at this point she is more than willing to make a fuss, to strenuously object about how it's too much, she could never fill up that much paper, she doesn't have enough to express, she couldn't possibly take up that much room in the studio.

But as I continue to calmly pin the four pieces to the easel, nodding supportively, yet ignoring her increasingly frantic protestations, I see the gleam in her eye. She wants this opportunity to take up space, to proclaim herself in living color, to be unmistakably seen, but is trained to not give voice to this desire. I watch her as she struggles with the forbidden excitement of the challenge, the possibility, the sheer daring of it. The door to a secret longing is creaking open on long unused and rusted hinges, opening to her hunger to be big, to be bold, to be outrageous, to be visible as completely and utterly herself.

THE BITCHY GIRL: Willing to be fierce and powerful; unafraid of her own anger, unafraid to speak up, to take a stand, to have limits and boundaries, unafraid to say NO! Unafraid to combat abuse, refuses to be treated badly, willing to break connections and walk away from toxic relationships if it means protecting your own wild and precious self.

Another major crossroads occurs in the painting process when a woman realizes how angry and enraged she feels and she lets herself express it on paper for everyone to see. However, the feeling of anger is so taboo and so threatening that it will usually sneak in the back door as just a little color. Some red or black appears on the page and then slowly or by "accident" grows larger than the woman had intended .

As this continues , the artist begins to feel a little uncomfortable. She will stand back from her now unruly painting with a puzzled frown and turn to me , saying something like " That looks awfully angry," followed quickly by, "You know, I'm not really angry. I don't get angry. A little frustrated maybe, but never angry." This is a very precarious moment in the process. I have had women actually walk out of the room to get away from this intimation of anger, put on their coat and announce that they really must leave now. I am generally able to coax her back to the painting for the rest of the class, but once she leaves I will often never see her again. The reality of her own angry feelings is just too scary, the prohibitions too strong, and all I can do at this point is hope for her that someday she will be able to feel safe enough to take that deep plunge into her own passionate and furious heart .

For the woman who is ready to take that terrifying yet thrilling dive, admitting that she is indeed angry can allow an amazing intensity of feeling to come flooding out. All the years of saying yes, yes, yes when she wanted to say no, no, NO to unreasonable demands, to abuse, to putting her own needs on a perpetual back burner, come out on the paper in a frenzy of paint , of color, and of image.

For one woman it comes out as a bright red background, with black words painted simply and starkly to read "I AM SO PISSED OFF!'". For another , it is a large image of a woman with wildly flying red hair, bellowing open mouthed and brazen " What the $#%@ about me!!!"

A 60 year old woman, who has been married to a Methodist preacher for 40 years, surprises herself by painting a warrior goddess in hot pants, with a Colt 45 in one hand and a cake spatula (to be used as a whacking weapon when necessary) in the other.

The paintings sometimes depict images that are recognizable out of myth, such as a snake haired Medusa, and sometimes are expressed as a whirl of color and chaos, populated by weird, otherworldly creatures sporting very large, VERY sharp teeth. But what they all have in common is that they jump off the page with the ferocity of emotion portrayed. There is no mistaking the intent behind these paintings which is some version of " I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

I RECENTLY READ an article in a marketing journal that was warning advertisers away from using the words power or powerful in ads directed towards women. The writer of this article was not questioning the issue of women's fear around power, just stating an obvious ( to him) fact that women won't buy things that are associated with the language of power.

We have a long history as women around being disempowered and victimized, and we have internalized this fear of power, of our own power, for way too long. We are living in times of great change and uncertainty and it is critical that we reclaim our birthright of strength, authority and creative vision to take advantage of the opportunity that we have to recreate the world as a place where our most treasured values can survive.

There are many ways to face and to heal this power wound, and approaching it through our creativity is just one of them. But it's a good place to start. As my women student's and I have learned over many years, it's quite possible to experience courage, transformation and self love by wielding the business end of a paintbrush. And breaking our long allegiance to the Good Girl and allowing the Bad Girl an honored place in our lives is not only healing, but makes life a lot more interesting and fun!
